Hiyas NZ Charitable Trust Board
It was formerly called Hiyas Wellington Cultural Group and was registered wih the Wellington City Council in July 2009. A group of Filipinos formed it to share and promote the different cultures and traditions of the Filipinos through Dancing and performing arts in cultural activities and events. However, some friends from other Ethnicities who saw the beautiful arts of the Filipinos and cultures of the Filipinos and how we share became interested in joining Hiyas. We decided to open its doors to different cultures. Hence, the fusion of different cultures became part of the objectives of Hiyas. With the merging of other cultures, Hiyas have to showcase other ethnic cultures by participating in various events. Hiyas values the rich of cultures and traditions of our members and understands its role in promoting them.
Hiyas NZ Charitable Trust Board is officially a member of Multicultural Council Wellington.
“Hiyas” means treasure or gem, and this concept is beautifully reflected in the organization’s logo, which takes the form of a pearl in a shell.
The pearl in a shell represents the vibrant and hospitable Filipino energy that attracts people to the country, with its predominantly sunny climate. It embodies the warmth, positivity, and inviting nature of the Filipino people. The pearl in a shell symbolizes the eight rays of the sun found in the Philippine flag, representing the first eight provinces that bravely fought against Spanish colonial rule. These arches converge at the center, where a figure delicately holds a pearl. This figure represents someone who has been liberated from the confines of their shell, symbolizing the freedom to shine and share their radiance with the world. Lastly, the pearl at the top of it signifies the Philippines as the “Pearl of the Orient Seas.” It symbolizes the country’s inherent beauty, both in its breathtaking landscapes and its diverse and talented people. Just like a precious pearl, the Philippines holds countless treasures within its lands and its people, waiting to be discovered and celebrated.

With our new management at the helm, Hiyas ng Pilipinas will take bold steps and soar to new heights, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of those we strive to help.
